HAAH Automotive Holdings has announced the creation of Vantas, which is a new automotive brand that aims to build and sell a luxury crossover in the United States.

Since building an all-new model is expensive and time consuming, the company has partnered with Chery and their first vehicle will be based on the Exeed platform.

Work has already begun on homologation for the U.S. market and additional details will be announced in the future. However, pictures suggest the upcoming Vantas crossover will be a badge-engineered version of the Exeed TX or TXL.

There’s no word on specifications at this point, but the Chinese Exeed TX has a turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol engine that produces 194 hp (145 kW / 197 PS) and 214 lb-ft (290 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to an active all-wheel drive system.

The TX also has LED headlights, a panoramic glass sunroof and a passive entry system. Other highlights include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system and augmented reality navigation system. It also boasts speech recognition technology, a push-button ignition and Nappa leather upholstery.

On the safety front, the TX has adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and a forward collision warning system with automatic emergency braking. Other driver assistance systems include lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and rear cross traffic alert.

In a statement, HAAH Chairman and CEO Duke Hale said Vantas “will incorporate a number of new technologies from its Chinese partner, including ‘Intelligent Connected’ for a wide variety of safety and driver assistance technology, various aspects of autonomous driving and, in the future, new energy vehicles.” He added, “Vantas vehicles will offer more choice in the premium category for U.S. and Canadian consumers with excellent safety, quality and reliability.”

There’s no word on when we can expect to see the first Vantas, but HAAH is also working to bring Zotye to the United States. The first models were slated to arrive this year, but that’s been pushed back to 2021.
