Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have opened a recall campaign for no less than 84,978 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 models from the 2019 and 2020 model years.
A recall notice issued by the NHTSA reveals that a build-up of pressure and heat inside the transmission of impacted vehicles could trigger a transmission fluid leak. If a leak is formed, the transmission fluid could drip onto the turbocharger or “another ignition source within the engine compartment,” increasing the risk of a fire. Such a fire can increase the risk of occupant injury and injury to persons outside the vehicle, as well as property damage.

FCA will conduct a voluntary safety recall and replace the transmission valve body separator plate and reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to resolve the issue. The recall process will commence on March 14 with owners of all affected vehicles set to be contacted by the car manufacturer.
Of the 84,978 vehicles embroiled in the recall, 64,590 examples are for the Ram 2500 while the remaining 19,612 are Ram 3500 models. FCA estimates that roughly 1 per cent of the vehicles being recalled have the issue.
