Maserati has announced additional details about its electrification strategy, which will see all upcoming models getting hybrid and battery electric powertrains.
Joining the pack will be a new SUV that will be put together at the Cassino plant in Italy, alongside the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia, following an €800 million ($869 million) investment.
The first pre-production vehicles are scheduled to roll off the assembly line by 2021 with an electrified powertrain. The premium D-segment SUV will slot under the Levante in terms of size and should take on the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the lot.

Additionally, Maserati has officially confirmed its new super sports car for 2020. The model, which was previewed by the stunning Alfieri Concept, will be built in Modena and will get an electric version.
Moving on, the company’s first hybrid to go on sale will be the Ghibli, which is due later this year. No further details have been announced about the electrified executive model, but it’s expected to pack a plug-in hybrid powertrain and could be offered in China at first, with other global markets following later on.
Finally, the next-generation GranTurismo and GranCabrio will go down the zero-emission route as the brand’s first cars to adopt a battery-electric propulsion system. Production of the two sports cars will commence in 2021, at Mirafiori, which got an €800 million ($869 million) cash injection. As revealed in a teaser last month, they will boast a distinctive signature sound.
