A Mercedes dealership north of Boston is lucky to be standing after a GLC caught fire in the showroom yesterday morning.
According to the Lynnfield Fire Department, a security guard was checking on the dealership and spotted the fire. They quickly reported the incident and crews were on scene within a matter of minutes.
Upon arriving, fire fighters broke into the showroom and were meet with “heavy smoke.” The department says there was so much smoke, that there was “zero visibility” and they had to resort to using a thermal imaging camera to find the fire.

Given the tough conditions as well as the size of the building and the number of vehicles in the showroom, the blaze was upgraded to a second alarm fire and more resources were called in. Thanks to this, the fire was brought under control approximately an hour and fifteen minutes after it was first reported.
WCVB reports authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire, but they don’t think it was suspicious. Lynnfield Fire Chief Glenn Davis also told the station the dealership was equipped with sprinklers and they worked as intended as they limited the spread of the fire. That being said, the chief noted the blaze “easily could’ve spread to the 12 vehicles in the building.”

The extent of the damage remains unclear, but it’s likely minor as the dealership opened later that same day. Ironically, a second vehicle started smoldering while sitting the in the parking lot. This caused the fire department to return to the scene and it remains unclear why that model started smoking.
This isn’t the first time a Herb Chambers dealership has made headlines this week. Just a few days ago, we told you about two Lamborghini Urus’ which were stolen from Herb Chambers Lamborghini Boston and crashed hours later.
