The 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo S is officially the quickest electric car tested by Motor Trend, just beating out a 2017 Tesla Model S P100D Ludicrous+ previously tested by the publication.

When conducting quarter-mile tests with electric vehicles, Motor Trend ensures vehicles are at least 75 per cent charged and that the battery pack must read at least 80 degrees Fahrenheit. While we don’t know the exact state of charge of the Taycan Turbo S when it was tested, the publication does say it enabled launch control to ensure all available 750 hp and 774 lb-ft (1,049 Nm) of torque was on offer off the line.

Out of the gates, the all-electric Porsche launches at frightening speeds. Just 0.8 seconds after taking off, it hits 19.6 mph (31.5 km/h) in less distance than its own length. In just 1.0 second, it hit 30 mph (48 km/h) which is actually 0.1 seconds slower than required by a 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S previously tested by the publication. In just 2.4 seconds, the Taycan Turbo S blasted past 60 mph (96 km/h).

Then comes the quarter-mile time. Motor Trend recorded a best time of 10.47 seconds with the car at a trap speed of 130.7 mph (210.3 km/h). The previous best quarter-mile time recorded for an EV was a 10.51 seconds at 125 mph (201.1 km/h) for a Tesla Model S P100D Ludicrous+. The publication doesn’t appear to have tested the updated Model S Performance ‘Raven.’

There are just 11 hypercars and supercars that have launched down the quarter-mile faster than the Taycan during Motor Trend testing. These include the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren Senna, McLaren 720S, and Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
