A New York State man has been arrested and charged with DUI after driving up a ski slope at Magic Mountain in Londonderry, Vermont.
The Chester Telegraph reports 59-year-old Frederick P. Brechter of Shelter Island, New York, attempted to drive up the ski slope known as ‘Hocus Pocus’ in a Range Rover last Friday night.
According to Craig Moulton of Magic Mountain’s Black Line Tavern, an employee noticed the vehicle climbing the hill as they were about to leave the tavern and go home.

“He got a couple of hundred feet up the terrain park and turned around,” said Moulton.
Officers from the Vermont State Police and Winhall Police Department quickly caught up with the man claiming he “displayed indicators of impairment.” He was taken into custody following subsequent Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and is due to appear in Windham County Superior Court on March 17 to answer charges.
The Range Rover left a number of ruts in the ski slope but Magic Mountain workers were able to fill them and ensure the run was open the following day.
In recent years, we’ve seen a number of car manufacturers and even Red Bull Racing take vehicles up ski slopes for various promotional purposes. It’s possible Brechter had watched too many of these stunts and thought it’d be a good idea if he tried to do the same.
