The Porsche Macan may be the ‘baby’ SUV in the German marque’s range, but in Turbo guise it offers up very impressive performance.

Driving the Macan Turbo is a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 434 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. This engine is also used in the Audi RS5 and provides enough grunt to send the Macan Turbo to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds and to a top speed of 167 mph (269 km/h).

AutoTopNL recently put the car through its paces to see how accurate those performance claims are.

In terms of acceleration, the Macan Turbo looks absolutely brutal. With launch control enabled on a damp stretch of road, the SUV was able to hit 62 mph in just 4.25 seconds, slightly quicker than Porsche’s claim. Had the launch been done on a dry road, it might have been a touch faster.

As for the SUV’s top speed, the driver was able to achieve a best of 160 mph (258 km/h) but had to back off the throttle, likely due to traffic. While running at 160 mph, the revs were sitting at roughly 5,400 rpm, nowhere near the 6,800 rpm redline.

It’s hard to deny that the Macan Turbo is an impressive piece of kit but, as a reviewer over in the UK recently discovered, it can become very pricey, particularly when you start selecting some of the available options. Mind you, we can’t blame only the Macan Turbo for this, as it’s standard practice with German luxury car manufacturers.
