The late George Barris achieved fame as the author of iconic movie cars like the Batmobile and the KITT, as well as countless other builds through his Barris Kustom company.
Was he also behind this bizarre creation based on the Mitsubishi 3000GT? We don’t know for sure but the seller of the car certainly claims that’s the case.
The car was previously advertised on Craigslist for the non-negligible sum of $27,000 and subsequently removed from the website – presumably because someone bought it. We came across the car via Oddimotive, which retrieved both the photos and the original ad text.

Located in Glendale, California, the car is described as a “specially redesigned custom car” based on an automatic transmission Mitsubishi 3000GT V6 with 110,000 miles (177,000 kilometers) on the odometer. The seller claims “this one of a kind sports car was designed by famous George Barris.”
Elements that support that statement include the custom car creator’s signature on the dashboard and Barris Kustom front fender crests. There’s also a logo on the front, rear and steering wheel but we don’t know if it has something to do with George Barris.
It’s hard to say whether those are authentic or not but no one can deny that this custom 3000GT is an over-the-top creation. It features oversized headlights flanking a Maserati-like grille, massive double round taillights that remind of the Nissan GT-R, and a hacked hatch area that seems to suggest it’s a mid-engine car – except it isn’t, obviously.
The hood vents are likely non-functional, with the car also featuring a bunch of nonsense badging including Sport, R, GT, GTX. Say what you want about this customized 3000GT but we dare you to ignore it as you walk by.
