VW is reportedly canceling its plans to reveal the production version of the electric ID 4 SUV at the New York Auto Show in April, with the debut most likely to take place at Detroit in June.
Autocar reports that VW had originally picked New York Auto Show as the setting for the reveal of its second ID model but for reasons unknown the German car maker decided to postpone the reveal.

The upcoming ID 4 is going to become VW’s first ID model to be offered stateside, since there are no plans to offer the ID 3 hatchback in the region, making it a key model in their ambitious electrification plans.
VW has already displayed a camouflaged ID 4 prototype at the Frankfurt Motor Show, showcasing the similar design choices of its electric SUV with the ID 3 hatchback. The German company is also planning a sportier coupe version of the ID 4 SUV with a sloping roofline and probably using the ID 5 nameplate.
Both the VW ID 4 and ID 5 will be produced in Europe, China and the US (at the Chattanooga plant), and are expected to play a major commercial role in the company’s electrification strategy as global models.
The most expensive variant of the VW ID 4 is expected to use a dual-motor setup, with one motor on each axle and a combined 302 HP. A 83 kWh lithium-ion battery pack will provide enough energy to the ID 4 to travel more than 310 miles on a full charge.
