The Bugatti Veyron is some 15 years old but after watching this clip of a bright red example running at full force on a dyno, you could be forgiven for thinking it’s brand new.
Driving the French hypercar is an iconic 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine which Bugatti says is good for 986 hp and 922 lb-ft (1,250 Nm) of torque. Eager to see if those figures are accurate, the owner of this Veyron strapped it onto a dyno.
In the best of the three power runs performed, the Veyron churned out figures of 897 hp and 909 lb-ft (1,232 Nm) of torque. Those figures, by the way, were measured at the wheels and if the Veyron has a 20 per cent drivetrain loss like it probably does, the engine could actually be churning out 1,076 hp and 1,091 lb-ft (1,479 Nm), quite a lot more than Bugatti proclaimed from the factory.

Had this Veyron been strapped to the dyno when it was brand new and not more than a decade old, it likely would have produced slightly more grunt.
Of course, there are outside factors that can influence dyno results, such as ambient temperature and elevation but these horsepower and torque figures are impressive.
Eager to get even more power, the Veyron’s owner plans to fit it with an aftermarket Ryft exhaust system which he believes could add as much as 15 per cent more power. With some other changes, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this Veyron eventually match the 1,200 hp of the Veyron Super Sport model.
