If for some reason you still think that GM’s new mid-engined 2020 Corvette hasn’t lived up to the hype, here’s yet another reason to stop doubting it.
Just look at this particular Stingray, tested from zero to 200 km/h (124 mph) by Motorsport Magazine. The first thing that strikes us is the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time, as recorded by the car’s sensors. It’s about the same as advertised, which is impressive under normal conditions.
Go to the official web page for the Corvette and you’ll find the following figures. The 2020 Corvette’s 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine is good for 495 HP and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque, accelerating you to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds.

In the video, the driver uses Launch Control to rocket from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.1 seconds, which should come down to 2.9 seconds if you factor in the 2 mph (3.2 km/h) difference. The Vette put in this time on regular asphalt with regular tires and seemingly no burnout session to warm up the rubber – not bad for a RWD supercar.
While the clock didn’t keep going, by our guess-estimation the C8 Corvette went on to reach 200 km/h (124 mph) in a little under 13 seconds, similar to an early R35 Nissan GT-R model, a car that had all-wheel drive.
Left unchecked, the C8 Corvette will eventually top out at 194 mph (312 km/h), although the car being shown here was only driven to 215 km/h (134 mph).
Whichever way you look at it, the C8 is seriously quick, and if you focus on the numbers, quite a steal for $59,995.
