The team over at Motor Trend recently had the opportunity to put a production-spec 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray through a series of performance tests and to call the results impressive would be an understatement.
Most of you will remember that the new Corvette Stingray is powered by a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine producing 495 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque with the performance exhaust system. It doesn’t take a genius to know those numbers will result in solid performance but the magazine discovered the C8 is a touch quicker than one may expect.
Off the line, the publication was able to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds with launch control enabled. The sports car continued to pull strongly down the quarter-mile setting a best time of 11.1 seconds at 123.2 mph (198.2 km/h), a very impressive time.

In terms of braking, the new ‘Vette is a solid performer, pulling up from 60 mph to naught in just 97 feet. The publication admits, however, that the brakes don’t have much linearity to them at the limit.
Through ‘figure 8’ handling course, the Corvette set a best time of 23.3 seconds with average lateral G-forces of 0.9. Such a time matches the original Lamborghini Aventador, F90 BMW M5, and Ferrari 812 Superfast but is a full second slower than a time set with a C7 Corvette Grand Sport. The reason? The C8 has a bit of mid-corner understeer that slows it down a tad.
