With Chevy commencing deliveries of the all-new 2020 Corvette C8 last week, the mid-engine sports car has already popped its drag racing cherry over the weekend.
The V8-powered C8 is equipped with a nitrous oxide system, although it did not need any extra boost to prove a point against the 2020 Toyota GR Supra. At the end of the quarter-mile, it posted 12.11 seconds at almost 119 mph (191 km/h).

In terms of power and performance, The Corvette holds the high ground, with the 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 495 HP and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque. The 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) takes less than 3 seconds and flat out, it will do 194 mph (312 km/h). Officially, the C8 can run the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds at 121 mph (195 km/h), according to the spec sheet.
The BMW Z4’s Japanese cousin didn’t do that bad either, although it needs a more powerful engine before it can compete with the bigger boys. Right now, it has 335 HP and 365 lb-ft (495 Nm) of torque produced by the 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged engine, does the 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).
In a different run, against the clock, the ‘Vette put the NOS to the test, yet it didn’t work flawlessly, apparently. Still, there is enough time for further fine-tuning and other adjustments and, who knows, maybe some more serious work in the future that would turn it into an absolute monster.
