Hyundai has started the road-testing phase of the first-ever i20 N. The subcompact hot hatch will sit at the top of the third-gen i20 family challenging the likes of the Volkswagen Polo GTI and Ford Fiesta ST.
Beneath the heavy camo, the car hides the sporty body kit, with bigger front and rear bumpers, larger side skirts, roof-mounted wing and diffuser with cutouts for the double-pipe exhaust system.

Expected to be inspired by the larger i30 N, the looks will be complemented by a set of big alloy wheels and red brake calipers hugging bigger vented discs. Special ‘N’ badging and new color options will round up the visuals on the outside.
To better highlight its sporty nature, the cabin will gain proper body-hugging sports seats, most likely wrapped in leather or Alcantara and leather, featuring contrast stitching, as well as N logos on the multi-function steering wheel and gearshift lever, and aluminum pedals and footrest.
The overall gear will carry over from the regular new-gen i20 and will include the infotainment system with smartphone integration, digital instrument cluster, Bose premium audio, wireless charging pad, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, remote lock, sat-nav with real-time traffic information and others.
Details surrounding the firepower have yet to be confirmed, however it is understood that the i20 N will employ a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, developing around 200 horsepower. The four-cylinder mill is going to be paired to a six-speed manual transmission driving the front-wheels only.
It’s expected that Hyundai will pull the covers off the new i20 N later in the second half of the year, with the Paris Motor Show being a prime candidate (well, if we don’t have any surprises by then) for its world debut.
