If you’re the type of person who would gladly drive an old Jeep Cherokee or have a thing for crossover wagons, then something like this 1981 AMC Eagle might be to your liking too.
A pioneer and predecessor of today’s stylish crossover wagons, the AMG Eagle is getting auctioned off through Bring a Trailer for the second time in five years. Back in February of 2015, it sold for $4,500, at which point the chassis had 250,000 miles (402,000 km) on it, while the rebuilt engine covered 8,000 miles (12,875 km).
According to the ad, the 4.2-liter inline-six engine now has 21,000 miles (33,800 km), while the current owner also fitted the car with new front shocks, rear air shocks, front and rear springs and a new battery.

Approximately 10 years ago, this car was repainted, while also receiving a replacement factory grille, refinished stainless-steel trim and new rubber seals. Unfortunately, replacements for the fender flares couldn’t be purchased during the refurbishment – hence all the imperfections.
Other mechanical work reportedly included the front driveshafts, hub bearings, leaf springs, bushings, steering column shims, Pitman arm, tie-rod ends and ball joints. Meanwhile, the factory 15-inch alloy wheels endured, wrapped in Bridgestone Dueler A/T rubber.
As for the interior, the seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl, while the front door hinges and headliner are also new, although there’s still plenty of wear and tear. At least the factory three-spoke steering wheel has been retained – not that it would make up for the non-functional cassette radio and air conditioning system.
The previously-mentioned 4.2-liter inline-six unit is mated to a three-speed automatic gearbox, with power going to all four wheels through a full-time all-wheel drive system with a single-speed transfer case.
