VW Commercial Vehicles and ABT Sportline have released details about the all-electric version of the facelifted 2020 Transporter lineup.
Dubbed the ABT e-Transporter 6.1 and based on the 2020 VW Transporter, the electric commercial vehicle is available in long-wheelbase panel van, Kombi or Caravelle body styles, as well as right- and left-hand drive configurations.
Depending on the specification, the ABT e-Transporter 6.1 offers a driving range of up to 138 km (86 miles) as per WLTP. The battery has a net capacity of 32.5 kWh (37.3 kWh gross) and feeds electricity to a 83 kW (113 PS / 111 HP) motor that delivers 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of instantly available torque.

Those are not spectacular numbers, especially considering the fact that the battery alone weighs 333 kg (734 lbs). Still, ABT Sportsline pitches it as an urban van, in which case the specs are adequate. The maximum load capacity ranges from 977 to 1,096 kg (2,154-2,416 lbs), with a maximum volume of 6.7 cubic meters (236.6 cu ft) in the long-wheelbase model. In Kombi and Caravelle guises, it can carry up to nine people.
The e-Transporter is available with top speed options of either 90 km/h (56 mph) or 120 km/h (75 mph), with corresponding WLTP driving ranges of 105 km (65 miles) and 138 km (86 miles), respectively. A full battery charge takes approximately 5.5 hours via a 7.2-kW AC-wallbox, while a 50 kW rapid charging station (CCS) replenishes the battery to 80 percent of capacity in approximately 45 minutes.
The ABT e-Transporter 6.1 is available to order right now at select VW Commercial Vehicles dealers and via ABT e-Line partners. Prices in Germany start from €44,990 ($49,425) for the panel van, €49,623 ($54,515) for the Kombi and €56,475 ($62,050) for the Caravelle. Lease deals start from €459 ($505) a month for the panel van.
