Like many other manufacturers, Bugatti’s plans for the world debut of the new Chiron Pur Sport were shattered by the cancellation of the 2020 Geneva Motor Show.
As with other affected companies, the VW-owned hypercar turned to the world wide web to present its new car and today we bring you two presentation videos shot at Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim, France.
In the first video, Bugatti President Stephan Winkelmann, Managing Director of Production and Logistics Christophe Piochon, Head of Development Stefan Ellrott and Deputy Design Director Frank Heyl do a walkaround presentation of the latest member of the Chiron family.

There’s also a separate video of Bugatti boss Stephan Winkelmann talking about 2019, the most successful year in the history of the brand, as well as the place the Chiron Pur Sport occupies in the lineup.
While the videos cover the essential stuff, let us remind you that the Chiron Pur Sport is a 50 kg (110 lbs) lighter, aerodynamically optimized, faster-accelerating and better-handling version of the base hypercar. The Pur Sport adds sophisticated aerodynamics components, including a 1,900-mm (74.8-in) wide rear spoiler for increased downforce. The fixed wing also saves weight as there’s no need for a hydraulic system.
Speaking of speed, Bugatti developed a new transmission for even better acceleration. The gears are closer together to enable shorter gear jumps and benefit performance, with the maximum engine speed of the W16 unit also increased by 200 rpm to 6,900 rpm.
Combined with the closer overall gear ratio, this creates 40 percent better elasticity. For example, the Chiron Pur Sport accelerates in 6th gear from 60 to 120 km/h (37-75 mph) almost two seconds faster than the already lightning-fast Chiron. The monumental 8.0-liter W16 engine continues to deliver 1,500 PS (1,103 kW / 1,479 HP) and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to the increased downforce and closer overall gear ratio, the engine already unleashes its full power at 350 km/h (217 mph).
But the Chiron Pur Sport’s main update is the new chassis setup featuring firmer springs, modified camber values and adaptive damping control strategy geared towards performance. Additionally, the newly developed high-performance Michelin Sport Cup 2 R tires (285/30 R20 at the front and 355/25 R21 at the rear) are said to provide “outstanding grip even at high cornering speeds.”
These changes enable more dynamic cornering, especially combined with the optional Aero magnesium wheels that save a total of 16 kg (35.2 lbs) of unsprung weight. Another upgrade is the new driving mode Sport+ which intervenes later in the ESP system for an improved driving experience on dry roads.
According to Bugatti, Sport+ allows the driver to deviate from the ideal line or drift slightly. Bugatti obviously does not supply the balls of steel necessary to attempt that maneuver in a €3 million ($3.3 million before taxes) car. Production of the Chiron Pur Sport will begin in the second half of 2020 and will be limited to 60 units.
