Top Gear’s 28th season is officially a wrap after the sixth and final episode of the series aired in the UK. During the episode, Chris Harris had the opportunity to test one of the most iconic rally cars ever, the Subaru Impreza 555 driven by Colin McRae during the 1995 World Rally Championship.

The late Scottish driver claimed the driver’s championship behind the wheel of this very Impreza in 1995 and the car still remains in the possession of McRae’s family. While the much-loved racer died in a helicopter crash back in 2007, he is still much-loved among the racing fraternity and as Harris discovered while driving the car, it’s easy to see why the Impreza 555 is so iconic.

In this preview of Harris driving the Impreza, he reveals that it is every bit as good as he’d hoped it would be. The Top Gear host is particularly fond of the gearbox, describing it as “sensational” while also commenting on how direct the steering is. In addition, he is also won over by the vehicle’s traction and short wheelbase.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a lucky British journalist drive an Impreza once rallied by McRae. In September last year, Carfection had the opportunity to experience McRae’s Impreza 555 from the 1997 World Rally Championship. That vehicle differs from the 1995 car in that it features a widebody kit and is a two-door, rather than a five-door like the car driven by Harris.
