First 2020 Chevy Corvette C8s Leave The Plant, Start Heading To Dealers

It’s going to be a great week for select Chevrolet dealerships across the country, as they have started taking delivery of the first 2020 Corvette Stingrays.

The C8s were spotted last evening, at around 8:30 p.m. CST (9:30 p.m. EST / 3:30 a.m. CET), as they were leaving the Bowling Green plant in Kentucky. One of the National Corvette Museum’s surveillance cameras captured four trailers loaded with ‘Vettes that were taken to showrooms, prior to being shipped to their owners.

According to CorvetteBlogger, which shared the footage online, the shipping status of their order no longer reads ‘null’.

Production of the new generation Corvette C8 started with a three-month delay due to a prolonged strike on February 3. The first example was purchased by a collector, Rick Hendrick, for a jaw-dropping $3 million, and will be kept away from the road.

At least the #1 C8 won’t feel alone, as it will share garage space with other firsts, including the Camaro ZL1 1LE and Acura NSX, for which Hendrick paid $250,000 and $1.2 million, respectively. His garage also hosts the first C7 Stingray, Z06 and ZR1, and the 1967 427 big block, which is his favorite.

With an MSRP of $58,900, the new Corvette promises great bang for the buck. The first mid-engine Vette does 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in under 3 seconds and maxes out at 194 mph (312 km/h). The 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine produces up to 495 HP (502 PS / 369 kW) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque with the optional Z51 Performance Package, and comes paired to an eight-speed auto ‘box driving the rear wheels.
