Ford is taking action against the effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic by offering new car buyers a six-month payment relief through its new ‘Built to Lend a Hand’ program.

The program is meant for eligible customers who finance their purchases through Ford Credit. Ford will pay for three months, with buyers able to defer for another three months. Only 2019 and 2020MY vehicles are part of the deal, excluding 2020 Super Duty trucks.

“Like we did in the Great Recession, Ford is managing through the coronavirus crisis in a way that safeguards our business, our workforce, our customers and our dealers during this vital period,” said Ford CEO Jim Hackett. “As America’s largest producer of vehicles and largest employer of autoworkers, we plan to emerge from this crisis as a stronger company that can be an engine for the recovery of the economy moving forward.”

The U.S. carmaker is also providing its dealers with additional rewards for helping better support customers during this viral outbreak. These rewards include offering payments to dealerships that deliver vehicles instead of asking buyers to leave their homes in March and April.

“Our dealers are incredibly connected to their communities,” said Kumar Galhotra, president, Ford North America. “They’re willing to lend a hand by doing whatever it takes to help our customers in this time of need.”

This new incentive program joins Ford Credit’s latest payment program, which allows existing U.S. customers affected by coronavirus to delay new vehicle payments by up to 90 days.

Additionally, Ford has also come up with new disinfection procedure guidelines for dealers, using CDC-approved products for cleaning both new and loaner vehicles.
