The novel Coronavirus first came to light back in early January, forcing Geely to establish a crisis working team and come up with a plan to protect the group’s 120,000 global employees, including the 6,000 people who work at the company’s headquarters in Hangzhou, China.
The company claims that thanks to very strict protocols being put in place, all of Geely’s facilities across China resumed work by March 1st, producing, designing and developing cars for global customers.
To start off, the Geely Crisis Team canceled all business trips and all guests were refused entry into the company’s facilities. Today, all Geely employees entering the Hangzhou HQ are required to undergo temperature testing on visual screens that highlight anybody that comes in with a fever.

Meanwhile, clock-in and out machines have been moved outside the building, while employees who drive into the headquarters get their temperature taken too – while their vehicles drive over sanitized mats that remove bacteria from the underside. Furthermore, those cars get their door handles sanitized by security teams while the employee is working.
Other implemented measures include the introduction of a maximum limit to the number of occupants allowed on an elevator (plus hand sanitizers and tissues for those pressing buttons), new available face masks every 8 hours, more temperature checks twice per day, the cancellation of large meetings and conferences (everything through video now), and 1 meter distances between employees at all times.
These protocols have allowed Geely to resume full production with no cases of Coronavirus inside their facilities, since their implementation.
It’s safe to say that these strict safety protocols should be picked up by every single carmaker in the world so as to further support the prevention and control of the Coronavirus outbreak.
