With millions of Americans under lockdown due to the coronavirus, GM has kicked off an advertising blitz which highlights their online sales program.
Called Shop Click Drive, the service steers customers to participating Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC dealerships. Users can then browse available inventory online and select a model of their choosing.
They’re then presented with information about the vehicle as well as current offers. They can then click on “Start Buying Process” and this will show them cash, lease and financing estimates.

All of this can be done without pressure and without submitting personal information. However, that information will be necessary to continue further.
Shop Click Drive is pretty straightforward and it allows customers to begin the credit application process and schedule a delivery appointment online. However, it might take a little longer to get your car as the website notes “Dealerships typically request about 48 hours to prepare your new vehicle for you.”
There are also some other downsides as the website says “We do not yet have the option to save your work in the middle of your online shopping process.” That’s not ideal, so you’ll probably want to set aside some time to get everything completed.
We talked to GM’s Stephanie Rice and she said “All of our brands make purchasing a new vehicle easy, even if you’re unable to visit a dealer in person, through our Shop Click Drive program.” She added the program allows customers to “Choose a vehicle, estimate a trade-in value, customize your payment, add accessories or protection packages and even schedule delivery – without ever stepping foot into the showroom.”
The advertising blitz comes as automotive production has come to a virtual standstill and analysts are predicting a huge drop in new car sales. However, now might be the time to buy as GM is offering up to 84 months of 0% financing on a handful of new vehicles.
