As the situation in New York City continues to unfold with nearly 18,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including 199 fatalities, (more than 30,000 cases overall for the state of NY), some private companies are stepping up their efforts to help out. Hertz on its part will begin providing free rental cars to New York City healthcare workers with reservations available at 19 NY-area Hertz locations.

The car rental giant is also working with Mount Sinai Health System, supplying them with cargo van rentals in order to transport ventilators and other medical supplies during this ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which in most parts of the world has shown little signs of slowing down.

NYC healthcare workers who would like to reserve a Hertz car from March 25 through April 30 should visit this link and get started on the process. According to the company, those who qualify can book a car for as little as a week, and up to a whole month, using a valid medical ID, an e-mail address with healthcare domain and driver’s license.

“With New York City having the highest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country, healthcare workers are dealing with extremely challenging circumstances,” said Hertz president and CEO, Kathryn Marinello.

“It’s vital that healthcare workers have safe and reliable transportation during this time, and we are eager to help. The dramatic decrease in travel means we have more vehicles to serve the most critical needs of the community. We’re starting in New York City with healthcare workers and we’ll continue to see how we can help during this crisis. It gives all of us at Hertz a sense of purpose and pride to lend our support as much as we can during this very difficult time.”

Hertz is also providing vehicles to Team Robicon, a veteran-led disaster response organization, currently serving at-risk populations in need of essential healthcare in New York City and the nearby New Rochelle, NY.

“Those on the frontline of this crisis – healthcare workers, government agencies and relief organizations – need everyone’s support more than ever,” added Marinello. “Hertz is proud to show our appreciation for the important work they’re doing by providing a valued resource during this difficult time.”
