One doesn’t necessarily need the 720S or 765LT to taste the McLaren spirit, as the 570S is more than capable of providing a daily dose of adrenaline, and it doesn’t need any mods either.
Part of the Sports Series family, alongside the 570 GT, 570S Spider, 600LT and 600LT Spider, as well as the lesser 540C, the 570S can nudge 204 mph (328 km/h) on a long straight, and will hit the 62 and 124 mph (100-200 km/h) marks in 3.2 and 9.5 seconds after setting off.
Review: Does The McLaren 570GT Push All The Right Buttons?
In the official spec sheet, the Woking brand says 10.9 seconds is all that’s needed to complete the quarter mile run. It also tells us that in super-duper ideal conditions, it will return an average fuel consumption of 18.8 mpg (12.5 l/100 km) in Europe’s new WLTP cycle – I know, right, who cares? The 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which is hooked up to a 7-speed automatic transmission and pumps out 562 HP (570 PS / 419 kW) – hence the name, together with a peak torque of 443 lb-ft (600 Nm).
Okay, so what is the deal with looking back at a model that entered production 5 years ago, two years before the mighty 720S, unless we can see it unleashed? As it happens, we came across a video from the guys at Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds, who had a little fun with the 570S, putting it through its paces in a top speed test. At the end of the 2.3 miles (3.7 km), the British sports car’s speedometer was indicating 206.5 mph (332.4 km/h). So, if you want to see the scenery go by very fast through the windscreen of the 570S, at full pace, you know the drill.
