MINI Sidewalk Edition Coming Stateside Next Month, Costs Nearly $40,000

MINI has announced the 2021 Sidewalk Edition will arrive in the United States next month and cost $38,400 before an $850 destination and handling fee.

While that’s pretty expensive, the model is based on the Convertible S and pays tribute to the original Sidewalk Edition which was launched in 2007 and became “one of the most popular special editions” offered by MINI.

Available exclusively in Deep Laguna Metallic or MINI Yours Enigmatic Black Metallic, the model has an anthracite soft top with contrasting grey accents. Buyers will also find Sidewalk-branded “side scuttles” and special 17-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone finish.

The cabin comes nicely equipped with premium leather seats, special trim and unique illumination. There’s also a host of Sidewalk-brand items including the steering wheel, floor mats and brushed aluminum door sill plates.

Besides the special touches, the model comes equipped with heated front seats, an automatic climate control system and a Harman Kardon premium audio system. Other highlights include a head-up display and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation. Buyers will also find LED headlights, Comfort Access and auto-dimming mirrors.

Power is provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 189 hp (141 kW / 192 PS) and 207 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque. It can be connected to a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox which costs $1,500. The latter enables the convertible to run from 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds.

According to MINI USA’s Patrick McKenna, the “Sidewalk Edition is the perfect balance between style and performance for MINI customers who are looking for top down, sun drenched driving this summer.” He went on to says the model is a “true value for those who want something truly unique.”
