A pair of intriguing trademarks from Nissan have emerged online showcasing a new company logo and a new logo for a Z sports car.

The Nissan brand logo you see pictured was recently registered in the UK, Chile, Argentina, Peru, and Uruguay and is much more minimalist than the marque’s current logo. It adopts a simple two-dimensional design with black text.

Many other companies have been adopting simple 2D logo designs in recent years, including the likes of Google, BMW, and Volkswagen. What remains unclear is whether Nissan intends on using this new logo for its online branding as BMW is doing with its transparent logo or if this will serve as the new badge for future Nissan production models.

As for the Z badge in question, it has been registered in both Canada and New Zealand and also adopts a simple, monochromatic design. When compared to the Z badge used by the 370Z, this new one also features a distinctive font similar to that one used in the Datsun 240Z, 260Z, and 280Z models, Motor Trend notes.

The world has been clamoring for a new Z sports car from Nissan for years and according to multiple reports, such a vehicle is in the works. The car could be dubbed the 400Z and be powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine with a cool 400 hp on tap. This engine will likely be coupled to a nine-speed automatic transmission as standard but a six-speed manual may also be available from the factory.

On a visual front, it is claimed the 400Z could get a retro design and a front fascia echoing the original 240Z. If true, the new logo pictured could work perfectly.
