The BMW Concept i4 unveiled last week previews a future production model that’s expected to look very similar. For the most part, the Concept i4 looks good but this rendering sent to us by one of our readers who prefers to be anonymous shows how much better it would look with a different front fascia.
BMW designers have been steadily increasing the size of the marque’s famed kidney grilles in recent years, culminating in the Concept 4 of last year and the forthcoming BMW M3 and M4 models. The Concept i4 features an equally-as-massive front grille and looks rather odd from the front.
Lovins’ creation ditches that grille and replaces it with a far smaller and far more pleasing kidney grille similar in size to the F80 M3’s albeit slightly more angular. As the i4 is all-electric, it doesn’t actually need a functional grille so it has been filled in with carbon fiber. Some adjustments have also been made to the i4’s front bumper with it now adopting a sharp and more angular shape.

It’s amazing how these relatively minor adjustments improve the fascia of the i4 so much. Unfortunately, however, we know that BMW is standing firm in its commitment to gargantuan kidney grilles and won’t make any such changes for the production-ready i4.
Grille aside, the i4 should be quite an impressive piece of kit. The EV will be offered in a number of forms, including a range-topping model with up to 523 hp, more than even the new BMW M3 and M4 twins. Power will be provided by an 80 kWh battery pack that should offer up a range of around 373 miles (600 km) on a charge.
