Skoda’s vocational school students are working on their seventh concept car, which will be an open-top version of the Scala compact hatchback.
The yet-to-be-named project has started taking shape and, judging from the official renderings, we can see that the young team behind it has significantly changed the back end, turning it into a genuine roadster.
Compared to the production model, the concept sports two doors, has redesigned rear quarter panels, boot and bumper. The ‘Skoda’ lettering is still flanked by the taillights, although these have a different pattern. The rear diffuser incorporates a central exhaust pipe and the car also features signature RS wheels and red brake calipers.
Review: Is The Skoda Scala Be All The Compact Hatchback You’ll Ever Need?
The interior is not that different, as the dashboard panel, air vents, infotainment system, climate controls, gearshift lever and pretty much everything else carry over. We can see that the steering wheel is also identical and has red contrast stitching, an element that we expect to see on other parts, such as the seats, handbrake lever and door cards.
Details surrounding the firepower have yet to be released, and will probably be kept close to their chest until the official unveiling, which is scheduled for June.
The Scala Spider (unofficial name) is the latest in a string of concept cars made by Skoda’s students. Last year, they presented the Mountiaq, a pickup truck version of the Kodiaq, and the year before, they made the Sunroq, based on the Karoq crossover. Other projects included the Element, a Citigo beach buggy, Atero Coupe Rapid Spaceback, CitiJet Citigo, and FunStar Fabia pickup.
