Hoping to get your hands on Honda’s new lightweight Civic Type R Limited Edition variant? Well, here’s hoping you don’t live in the UK, where all 20 units allocated to Britain sold out before any customer even got the chance to find out what it cost or see the car in person.
Alas, pricing is £39,995, which translates to roughly $46,600, although the exact figure for the U.S. has yet to be released. In total, only 100 units are intended for European markets.
Compared to the standard Type R, this Limited Edition model weighs 47 kg (103 lbs) less, and comes with lightweight 20-inch BBS forged alloy wheels, unique ‘Sunlight Yellow’ paint, a new Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and a counter-weighted teardrop gear knob.
“As with the previous generation, we were expecting a huge demand for the Civic Type R Limited Edition. To have sold all 20 examples so quickly and before anyone has even seen, let alone driven the car, is fantastic and testament to the work done by the multiple-award winning Civic Type R,” said Honda UK exec, Phil Webb.
Also, unlike some of its track-focused rivals, the Civic Type R Limited Edition still has its back seats.
Meanwhile, pricing and further information on the 2020MY Civic Type R, Civic Type R GT and Civic Type R Sport Line will be announced later on in the year.
As for the United States, this “ultimate track-focus Type R” will enjoy a limited run of 600 units, and unlike the Euro-spec car, the weight-saving measures are just 46 lbs (20.9 kg). The color however is the same, except that it’s going to be called ‘Phoenix Yellow’ on this side of the Atlantic.
