Tesla has joined the big boys league with 1 million cars produced, becoming the biggest electric vehicle maker globally.
The milestone was celebrated at the Palo Alto headquarters in California yesterday, when Elon Musk took to Twitter to thank the entire team for their dedication, sharing a couple of pictures with the crew and the one-millionth car, a red Tesla Model Y that’s probably being shipped to its owner as we speak.

By opening up their second car plant globally in Shanghai, China, late last year, Tesla has significantly ramped up its annual production rate. The automaker plans to put together no less than 150,000 electric vehicles in the People’s Republic this year, which, combined with the Fremont plant’s capacity of 500,000, would give them an annual rate of 650,000 units. So, get ready for more milestones and tweets from the man himself, as he will undoubtedly make time to enjoy the fruits of his labor.
In just a few years, Elon Musk has managed to put his car brand on everyone’s radar, making some of the biggest names in the automotive industry come up with proper zero-emission alternatives to challenge their likes. The Tesla lineup currently includes the Model S and Model 3 sedans, and the Model X and Model Y SUVs. Tesla has other products in the pipeline, so later on, the range will grow to include the all-new Roadster, as well as the Cybertruck and the Semi.
