The new generation Cadillac Escalade represents a big departure from its predecessor. Not only it’s based on a new platform and features more technology gear, but it’s also available with a diesel engine for the first time.
Now, why on Earth would the GM-owned brand make an oil burner available in the flagship luxury SUV? The answer is quite simple, actually: better fuel economy. This is what the company’s marketing manager Dave Schiavone told CadillacSociety when he was asked about it.

“If you love Escalade, you love Escalade. But for those people that also love fuel efficiency, they can get it in the diesel”, said Schiavone. “We’re expecting some pretty good improvements in fuel economy on the diesel over the V8 gasoline. I don’t have the numbers to share right now, but I will tell you that they are significant.”
The 3.0-liter turbodiesel develops 277 HP (281 PS / 207 kW) and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque. The six-banger is paired to a ten-speed automatic transmission and is joined by the 6.2-liter V8 gasoline, making 420 HP (426 PS / 313 kW) and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque.
When it arrives in showrooms across the country at the end of the year, the 2021 Escalade will be available in five trim levels. The range will kick off with the Luxury, followed by the Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum and Sport Platinum. Standard gear across the lineup will included the curved instrument cluster and infotainment screens, 22-inch wheels and a host of safety systems. Pricing will be announced close to the on-sale date.
