Smooth as butter on a hot pan is what many would call this classic Chevrolet Corvette, and some of them will attend the auction that takes place this summer, hoping to drive it home.

Offered at no reserve by Mecum on June 3-7 in Jefferson, North Carolina, it’s a C2 that retains most of the original’s classic looks combining them with modern driving dynamics sourced from newer iterations on a custom-built tubular chassis.

The front suspension comes from a C5 while the rear suspension has been sourced from a C6. The Z06 has supplied the brakes with 6-piston calipers at the front and 4-piston calipers at the rear. All components are said to have been “meticulously fitted”, while powering it is a modern LS3 V8 engine, with electronic fuel injection, making 525 horsepower, which is paired to a 5-speed manual Tremec transmission.

Made by Jeff Hayes from American Speed Shop in Indiana, a custom builder known for the numerous SEMA projects, it’s finished in Silver Pearl and features a black hood stinger, flared rear fenders, side exhaust pipes and 18- and 19-inch wheels front and rear, wrapped in 235/40 and 275/35 Toyo tires, respectively.

The interior has been refurbished with Mercedes-Benz tan leather, found on most touchable surfaces, from the body-hugging seats to the dashboard, steering wheel and door cards, black carpet and equipment such as air conditioning, power windows and retro AM/FM stereo.

Now, you know you want it, so how much would you be willing to spend to park it in the driveway? Keep in mind that C2s in decent shape normally go for around $50,000, while the best of them go for six digits.
