Earlier this week, VW sent out an official sketch depicting their all-new, 2022 Amarok pickup, which will share its underpinnings with the next-gen Ford Ranger.
The teaser was shown at the German carmaker’s annual media conference and while the truck’s features were greatly exaggerated (as it is often the case with these types of images), there was still plenty of visual information for us to dissect.
Even when you tone down the sketch, you’re still left with something that should feature beefier wheel arches than the current Amarok, a more imposing front end design with a more pronounced skid plate and a more angular hood – more Atlas-like than Amarok, if you will.

It didn’t take long for somebody to take that teaser sketch to heart and render a production version of the 2022 VW Amarok digitally. In this case, it was Kolesa who stepped up.
After careful examination, the transition from exaggerated sketch to something that could go into production looks pretty seamless. The fenders seem legit, the door panels and most of the front fascia too – the only gripe we have is that the sketch doesn’t give us anything in terms of headlight graphics, so the light units rendered here are a best guess type of thing.
Now back to the real world, where the next-gen Amarok is currently in development alongside its Ford Ranger twin. Both models will be born under Ford’s tutelage, aimed at European, African, Middle Eastern, Asia-Pacific and South American markets.
While the two will share identical underpinnings, their looks will of course remain different, as per each automaker’s own design language.
