The Toyota 86 may be short on power and (especially) torque, but something it does not lack is special edition models.
This latest one comes from Japan and pays tribute to the Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno GT Apex Black Limited, the last special edition of the AE86 Sprinter Trueno launched in 1986 in a run of 400 units. Dubbed Toyota 86 GT Black Limited, it echoes the specification of its ancestor, namely the color scheme.
On the outside, the limited-run model sports a Crystal Black Silica body color combined with bronze 17-inch aluminum wheels and optional bronze pinstriping. The rear spoiler is painted black as well, and the car also features additional underbody covers and an F1-style central fog lamp.

For improved performance, the Toyota 86 GT Black Limited adds Brembo 17-inch vented disc brakes and red-painted brake calipers (four-pot at the front and two-pot at the rear) as well as Sachs shock absorbers.
The interior is all-black and features a subtle bronze accent in the form of the “Black Limited” logo embroidered on the passenger-side dashboard. Highlights also include front heated sports seats upholstered in genuine leather and Alcantara, as well as suede-like Granlux applied on the dashboard, instrument panel cover and door panels.
If you’re familiar with Toyota 86 special edition models, you know that power upgrades are not usually part of the menu. The 2.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-four unit continues to deliver 207 PS (204 HP) at 7,000 rpm and 212 Nm (156 lb-ft) of torque at 6,400-6,800 rpm in combination with the standard six-speed manual gearbox. With the six-speed Super ECT automatic, the figures drop slightly to 200 PS (197 HP) at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque at 6,400-6,600 rpm.
Toyota will only build 86 units of the Black Limited edition, evenly split between manual and automatic cars. Prices start at 3,198,727 yen ($30,870) for the manual model and 3,260,000 yen ($31,460) for the automatic.
