People love to modify Ford Mustangs and enthusiasts really love to drag race them but sometimes, having too much power and being overconfident in one’s driving skills can have dire consequences.

We recently stumbled upon this video filmed on February 22, 2020 at Alien City Dragway in Roswell, New Mexico. It captures the end of a drag race between a fourth-generation Ford Mustang and a fifth-gen Mustang and shows the fifth-gen car crossing the finish line completely sideways in a rather bizarre scene.

We did a bit of digging and found a video that captured the incident in its entirety. The race starts at the 21:00 minute mark in the bottom video and reveals that the two Mustangs both feature twin-turbo systems and span up their rear tires off the line, leaving thick tire marks down the drag strip.

Roughly halfway down the eighth-mile drag strip, the silver Mustang starts to swerve to the left as the driver fights to keep it under control. The car then starts to violently fishtail as the driver overcorrects the steering and repeatedly hits the brakes trying to keep the car under control. The ‘Stang ends up sliding right into a concrete crash barrier just past the finish line.

While it would be easy to blame the driver for this crash, we think something else was going on. Ford Mustangs are known around the world for their love of running into crowds of people and just off to the right-side of the drag strip, you’ll notice a bunch of spectators. In all likelihood, the Mustang was trying to run them down but failed to notice the crash barrier…
