A couple in America are preparing to take delivery of a rather special 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray with a VIN to match the original 1953 Corvette they also own.
Larry Smith and Debi Smith are both members of the C8 Corvette Owners (And Friends) Facebook group and the proud owners of an original Corvette painted in a stunning shade of white with white-wall tires and chrome/red wheels. 1953 was the very first year of production of the Corvette and just 300 examples were built that year, making the couple’s car a true collector’s item.

The 1953 ‘Vette carries a VIN ending in 000285 and eager for their 2020 Corvette Stingray to carry the same VIN, they were able to convince Chevrolet for them to secure a VIN ending in 0000285. To help match the 1953 car as closely as possible, the Smith’s 2020 car is painted in Arctic White.
Speaking with Motor1, Larry Smith said it was a long process to secure the perfect VIN for their new sports car.
“It was a long process for us to get the 2020 Corvette #XXXX0000285. At the time we started the process, Chevrolet wouldn’t even say there was going to be a mid-engine Corvette; it was ‘just a rumor’ we were told.”
Customizing the VIN on a C8 Corvette doesn’t come cheap. In fact, we revealed back in July 2019 that customers can request the last 5 digits of their car’s VIN to be customized for a cool $5,000. While that’s a lot of money, it could prove to be an excellent investment if the Smith couple ever decide to sell both their Corvettes.
