As our spy photographers have snapped the Volkswagen Arteon Shooting Brake testing again in Europe, we are pretty convinced by now that it will launch there.

Whether the car brand decides to bring it to North America is a very good question indeed, although one that has no solid answer at the time of writing.

With barely disguised front and rear ends, and fake window trim to mask the sloping roofline, the prototype of the long-roof Arteon looks sleek and aims to become one of the most elegant estates in the mid-size segment.

Review: It’s Easy To Fall For The Volkswagen Arteon, But Should You?

Expected to debut alongside the facelifted liftback before the end of the year, the wagon variant of the Arteon will probably get its entire engine lineup if it indeed gets greenlit for the Old Continent. This includes the usual four-pot petrol and diesel units. The rumored U.S.-spec model would be powered by the 268 horsepower 2.0-liter gasoline, connected to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen is also working on the development of the Arteon R. The hot version was scooped last month parading the sporty body kit, drilled brakes with blue calipers and quad exhaust pipes. It will feature a meatier engine, which is understood to be the company’s 3.0-liter VR6 twin-turbo, making around 400 HP, likely paired to a dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive, a setup that should help it hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in roughly 4 seconds.

The sporty flavor of the car might not be limited to the liftback, as it will reportedly be offered in the Shooting Brake too.
