Testing videos of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray are coming in thick and fast and shortly after Hennessey Performance took delivery of its very own C8, it set about seeing how fast it can go.
But before we get to that, as noticed by the guys over at Roadandtrack, what perhaps is even more astonishing about this video other than the way the Corvette gobbles up miles, is how fast it gobbles up fuel during the run, with the gauge starting out at a little over half a tank and ending at the halfway point. Might not sound much, but remember, we’re talking about a minute-long acceleration!
During this particular run, the exciting new sports car accelerated off the line and to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.1 seconds. That’s a fair bit slower than the sub-3-second time quoted by Chevrolet but Hennessey wasn’t using launch control and the car span up its rear tires in first gear, due in no small part to the fact that the tires were pumped up to over 50 psi for the high-speed run.

Once the new ‘Vette hooks up its rear tires, it gains speed at an impressive pace considering its 6.2-liter V8 engine delivers 495 hp with the performance exhaust, not a great deal compared to the 700 hp+ mid-engined supercars we’ve become accustomed to in recent years. At the top of sixth gear, the car hit 182 mph (292 km/h).
That’s fast. Very fast. For reference, Chevrolet claims C8 models equipped with the available Z51 Performance Pack top out at 184 mph (296 km/h) so Hennessey was only 2 mpg (3.2 km/h) off that mark. Models without the Z51 pack that includes a larger rear wing top out at 194 mph (312 km/h).
Hennessey Performance has also strapped its new Corvette onto the dyno and returned figures of 466 hp and 451 lb-ft (611 Nm) of torque.
