The Rivian R1T and R1S are two of the most eagerly-anticipated new electric vehicles heading for the market and when deliveries do commence, we expect owners to soon start putting the EVs through their paces.
Rivian has been keen to promote the adventurous spirit of both the R1T and R1S and is marketing the duo not towards city dwellers but instead those that like to go outside the city and explore nature. With this in mind, the R1T and R1S both have a number of utilitarian features that could help them in tough conditions and perhaps also make them viable police vehicles.

A member over at the Rivian Owners Forum recently rendered the R1S in U.S. police guise and an R1T as it would be used by the Dubai Police. While EVs haven’t taken off in police fleets around the world, the impressive range, performance, and fast-charging abilities of the Rivian’s could make them an interesting choice.
The R1S imagined for police service in the United States is painted black and comes complete with a crash bar up front similar to what Ford Explorer police vehicles use. There are also the obligatory flashing lights and black steel wheels. As for the R1T, it has the same white and green livery of the various other vehicles used by Dubai Police and could be the perfect pursuit vehicle for any thieves trying to escape from justice through the desert dunes.
Speaking at an event in late January, Rivian founder and chief executive R.J. Scaringe said a mid-range R1T will start at around $69,000 while a mid-range R1S will be sold from roughly $72,000. Customer deliveries of the R1T will start before the end of the year while the R1S will arrive a touch later.
