The upcoming BMW i4 has been spied testing under a thin layer of camouflage while at a charging station somewhere in Europe. This prototype provides us with our best view of the car’s completed design.

BMW previewed the battery-electric i4 with the unveiling of a concept back in early March and as expected, the road-going model looks very similar. This is particularly apparent at the front end where we can see the outline of two massive kidney grilles just like the Concept i4.

If you’re not a fan of the big grilles the new M3 and M4 will sport, you probably will find the i4’s front grille even more distasteful, largely because they will be mostly aesthetic, serving as a housing for the various sensors. If you’re into big grilles, well, you do you.

Pry your eyes away from the front grille, and you will notice the i4 has a pair of aggressive and angular headlights. At the sides, the test car appears to sport the same door handles as the concept while also featuring similarly angular skirts. While camouflage is covering much of the rear of the prototype, we can see that taillights just like those from the concept will be featured. One notable absentee at the rear is the lack of the concept’s over-the-top diffuser.

We already have a very good idea regarding the i4’s key specifications. Most notably, it will run a pair of electric motors combining to produce roughly 523 hp, giving it a power advantage over the new M3 and M4. The EV should hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in approximately 4 seconds. Providing these motors with juice will be an 80 kWh battery pack that will also allow for approximately 373 miles (600 km) of range on a single charge.

The BMW i4 is expected to premiere before the end of the year.
