FCA’s New 2021 Fiat Strada Is A Small Pickup Truck For South America

Fiat has unveiled the redesigned Strada pickup, ahead of its launch in Brazil later this year.

Billed as the world’s first compact pickup with four doors and seating for five, the Strada looks far more substantial than its predecessor as it adopts a more rugged and truck-like design.

Some of the biggest changes occur up front as the model has a more prominent grille with large “FIAT” lettering. It’s surrounded by LED headlights and a new bumper with a honeycomb air mesh air intake.

Designers also installed front fender vents and plastic body cladding. Other highlights include a deep cargo bed and wraparound taillights.

Fiat didn’t go into too many specifics, but confirmed the Strada has a 24° approach angle and a ride height of 8.2 inches (208 mm). The single cabin version also has the largest cargo volume in its segment as it holds 47.8 cubic feet (1,354 liters) of luggage. The crew cab variant is slightly less cargo friendly as it has a capacity of 29.8 cubic feet (844 liters).

The styling updates continue in the cabin as there’s a new leather-wrapped steering wheel with gloss black trim. It resides in front of a modern instrument cluster which has a small digital display.

To the right, there’s a 7-inch Uconnect infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. We can also see new switchgear, metallic trim and distinctive upholstery.

According to Motor1, the Strada will be offered with two different engines. The base unit is a 1.4-liter that produces 88 hp (65 kW /88 PS) and 91 lb-ft (123 Nm) of torque. Customers will also be able to opt for a more powerful 1.3-liter unit with 109 hp (81 kW / 110 PS) and 103 lb-ft (139 Nm) of torque. Regardless of which engine is selected, both will reportedly be connected to a five-speed manual transmission.
