The next-gen Mercedes-Benz SL promises to be better than ever, but if you’re not into fancy modern suits, the latest technology gear, smaller engines, or just don’t want to pay full price for the newest, shiniest ride, then you might want to take a look at an older example.
You can still find low-mileage SLs out there, and SilverstoneAuctions will have three of them for sale during their online auction scheduled to take place on May 23, at 2:00 p.m. BST (9:00 a.m. EST), including a 2004 R230 SL65 AMG with an eye-catching lick of paint.
Review: The Mercedes AMG SL65 Black Series – From Soft Cruiser To Fully Blown Bruiser
Arguably one of the best looking versions of the German GT, with SLR styling influences, this car has only 13,622 miles (21,922 km) on the clock and a full service history, with 6 recorded visits to the mechanic.
It’s in top notch condition as you can see from the pictures shared down below, boasting an elegant and not often seen Almandine Black Metallic exterior paint alognside 19-inch AMG alloy wheels and black interior with wooden inserts, heated and ventilated seats, air conditioning, infotainment system and others.
The icing on the cake is found resting under the hood, and it’s a 6.0-liter V12 engine, with twin turbochargers, that develops 603 horsepower (612 PS / 450 kW) and 738 pound-feet (1,000 Nm) of torque. Back in the day, it was capable of sprinting to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.6 seconds and to 100 mph (161 km/h) in 7.5 seconds, and given the low mileage, we reckon that most of those horses are still in the stable.
Sixteen years ago, the first owner paid £151,239.19 ($187,800) for this car, and while the option house hasn’t provided an official selling estimate, it should fetch around a third of that, as the value of nice SL 65 AMG R230 in today’s market is around €50,000 (~$54,000) in Europe.
