According to new Aston Martin chairman Lawrence Stroll, the company’s main focus as of right now is to restart production and commence launching the DBX luxury SUV, which is being built at the carmaker’s new factory in St. Athan, Wales.
Deliveries for the DBX are expected to begin in the second half of this year, as reported by Autonews Europe.
Like many other UK companies, Aston Martin was also forced to suspend production at its factories in Gaydon, England and St. Athan, Wales, back in March. Last week, the suspension was extended to April 27.

“In this first year we will reset the business,” said Stroll. “Our most pressing objective is to plan to restart out manufacturing operations, particularly to start production of the brand’s first SUV, the DBX, and to bring the organization back to full operating life.”
The Aston Martin boss added that the British carmaker would also be building its order book and will invest in the development of mid-engine cars, while looking at electric car production as a long term play.
These comments came soon after it was announced that Switzerland’s richest man, Ernesto Bertarelli, as well as Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff, took small stakes in Aston Martin.
Formula 1 power play
Stroll is also the current owner of the Racing Point F1 Team, which come next year will be rebranded as Aston Martin.
What this means for the grid is that Aston Martin could basically become the Mercedes B team, similar to how Toro Rosso (now Alpha Tauri) operates on behalf of Red Bull Racing.
