Street racing is a never a good idea, particularly since many of us have been ordered to stay at home unless we have to make an essential trip. Nevertheless, these two videos showing a 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 racing a C7 Corvette Z06 and then a C7 Corvette ZR1 are very interesting.
The first video below features a handful of rolling races between the Shelby GT500 and Corvette Z06 on a long stretch of highway. In all of the races, with the exception of one where the Corvette got a bit of a head start, the Mustang is able to claw its way ahead.

This isn’t much of a surprise as the ‘Stang has a clear power advantage over the ‘Vette. You see, whereas the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 of the Z06 is good for 650 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque, the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 powering the Mustang offers up 760 hp and 625 lb-ft (847 Nm). Admittedly, it weighs more than the Corvette but the added grunt proves to be too much for the Z06. The quick-shifting seven-speed automatic of the Ford also helps it.
In the second clip, we get to see the GT500 go toe-to-toe with the daddy of all C7 Corvette models, the ZR1. Thanks to a host of engine upgrades, it is good for 755 hp and 715 lb-ft (968 Nm) of torque. With a significant torque advantage over the Ford, it is able to eke out a lead in most of the races although the Ford does do a respectable job of keeping pace.
