If you’re a car enthusiast who likes bargains, there’s a good chance you’ve, at some stage, looked through the classifieds at once flagship Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi models and been astounded at how cheap some of them can be.
But, while you may be able to afford such a vehicle, maintaining it is a different prospect entirely. The clip below comes from Auto Europa Naples and sets out to answer if an average person can afford a car like a 2005 Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG.
When it was new, the S55 set back customers roughly $120,000 but in the 15 years since, depreciation has hit hard and there are many used examples available for between $6,000 and $12,000. Sounds like a bargain, doesn’t it?

According to the used car dealer presenter this clip, it is possible to find an S55 that’s been well maintained. The logic goes that original owners take the brunt of the depreciation hit while second owners are often left with costly issues that need to be fixed. This allows third and fourth owners to find examples that have depreciated fully and had all the necessary repairs performed.
Despite being 15 years old, the S55 AMG is still loaded with impressive features. For example, this particular unit is fitted with the available Active Body Control (ABC) suspension system that makes it exceptionally comfortable. According to the salesman, “if you’re a gangster rolling over dead bodies that you’ve just stabbed to death, you can raise or lower the suspension to get over their heads without causing any damage to your ground effects. I suppose it would also work well in snow.”
Powering the vehicle is a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine producing a very impressive 493 hp (500 PS) and giving the S55 proper sports car performance. Is it worth picking one up for cheap? Be sure to watch the video below in its entirety to find out.
