Whenever a desirable new sports car or supercar hits the market, you can rest assured that it won’t be long before the first used examples start hitting the classifieds with massive markups. That’s now started to happen with the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
One of the most appealing things about the new Corvette is that it starts at a mere $59,995 although the average transaction price of those sold is thought to be around $80,000. Even still, it’s a bit of a bargain and owners are making the most of demand for the car and trying to cash in.
As pointed out by a Reddit user, a look through the classifies on Auto Trader shows more than two dozen used C8 Corvettes with price tags exceeding $100,000. The most expensive we’ve come across has been listed for sale by Silicon Auto Group in Texas with a price of $159,880. It includes the available Z51 Performance Package and the 3LT Preferred Equipment Group and is painted Arctic White and complete with black racing stripes and carbon fiber trimmings, including the front splitter, side skirts, and rear wing. It has 10 miles (16 km) on the clock.

While a number of the used 2020 Corvettes currently available online are being sold by dealerships, a number of private buyers have also listed their cars up for sale.
The priciest private example we’ve seen resides in Florida and also features the Z51 Performance Package and 3LT interior package. The seller says this particular car had a sticker price of $92,000 and is now being sold for $127,000 with 900 miles (1,448 km) under its belt.
While we’re sure a handful of 2020 Corvette owners may be selling their cars after having a change of heart after taking delivery, we suspect most are simply trying to make some money while hype surrounding the car is at its peak. Used prices can be expected to fall once the 2021 Corvette is released.
