Earlier this year, automotive journalists and social media influencers had the opportunity to test out the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray in the U.S. and the general consensus seems to be that it is a very good sports car. But what do the Europeans think of it?

Steve Sutcliffe from Evo Magazine headed to the U.S. earlier this year to put the C8 Corvette through its paces. With experience driving Europe’s finest performance cars, Sutcliffe knows a thing or two about what makes a good car.

Beyond the obvious fact that the new Corvette is mid-engined, the car is special as it is the first in the history of the ‘Vette that will be manufactured and sold in right-hand drive configuration for markets such as the UK and Australia. This will make it a much more global car than previous iterations and with its low starting price, shake up the competition.

The car tested by Evo Magazine came equipped with the Z51 Performance Package and is a real performer. The veteran journalist says the balance of the chassis is “brilliant” and adds that the steering is lovely. In addition, he is full of praise for the dual-clutch transmission that provides blisteringly fast shifts.

Then there’s the engine. While it is a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 like the C7, it is new and now pumps out 495 hp with the performance exhaust. That might not seem like much when you consider the similarly-sized Ferrari F8 Tributo and McLaren 720S each have 710 hp but the new Corvette appears to be fast enough, including for hard track driving.

Chevrolet has yet to announce pricing details for the new Corvette in right-hand drive markets.
