Expert watchmaker Jacob & Co has just unveiled what is perhaps one of its most impressive tourbillon timepieces we’ve ever seen, inspired by the Bugatti Chiron.
Fittingly dubbed the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon, the timepiece took roughly a year to develop and features a small version of the French hypercar’s W16 engine block crafted from sapphire crystal. This extraordinarily detailed tiny engine block features 16 miniature pistons that move up and down thanks to a replica crankshaft. Jacob & Co is so proud of this crankshaft that it describes it as “one of the smallest and most complicated watch parts ever manufactured.”

The complication is activated with a push of the far-right crown and runs for approximately 20 seconds and can be activated three times before the mainspring needs to be rewound. As if that wasn’t enough, there are two small turbochargers on the side of the timepiece that spin.
What’s more, the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon’s movement and baseplate are suspended by a set of four springs designed to mimic the suspension of a car. While the springs in the watch pictured are blue, they can be customized. Sapphire crystal offers an unimpeded view into the complication and the case even includes a tiny Bugatti horseshoe grille.

The rest of the case is made from black titanium and those who want to order the watch will be able to select between a number of different colors and gems. Jacob & Co intends on building just 250 units with each priced at a cool $280,000. You don’t have to own a Bugatti Chiron to secure one but we suspect it will help.
