According to Formula 1 CEO Chase Carey, the 2020 Calendar could hold between 15 and 18 races and right now, plans are in motion to kick the new season off on July 5 in Austria.
Carey confirmed that races will still be held across multiple continents, starting with Europe, Asia and the Americas, before finishing in the Middle East. Unfortunately, the French Grand Prix will not be part of this package, as it has just been canceled.
With this provisional calendar, European rounds would take place in July, August and September, initially behind closed doors. The season would then conclude in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, in December.

“Although this morning it was announced that the French Grand Prix, due to take place in late July, will not be going ahead, we are now increasingly confident with the progress of our plans to begin our season this summer,” said Carey.
“We’re targeting a start to racing in Europe through July, August and beginning of September, with the first race taking place in Austria on 3-5 July weekend. September, October and November, would see us race in Eurasia, Asia and the Americas, finishing the season in the Gulf in December with Bahrain before the traditional finale in Abu Dhabi, having completed between 15-18 races. We will publish our finalized calendar as soon as we possibly can.”
Carey has been talking to all 10 teams, as well as the FIA in order to safeguard the sport ahead of an anticipated economic hit sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The health and safety of all involved will continue to be priority one and we will only go forward if we are confident we have reliable procedures to address both risks and possible issues.”
While it’s expected that early races will have no fans in the stands, Carey hopes that later ones will, as pandemic restrictions could begin loosening up around the globe later this year.
