Despite the coronavirus pandemic, development of the Fisker Ocean continues, with the company announcing the launch of an off-roading variant for next year.
Teased in a couple of official renderings, the electric SUV will adopt a meaner stance with a clear goal in mind: becoming a more capable machine on difficult terrains. A bullbar has been added to the front bumper and the modified hood houses the spare wheel.
The electric off-roader also has wide tracks, bigger side skirts and a roof rack with incorporated trail lights. The back end looks unchanged and those fancy launch wheels have been replaced by new ones, shod in chunky off-road tires.

You may wonder what’s up with the United Nations lettering on the front doors, and the answer comes from Henrik Fisker himself. “The low center of gravity and wide track brings added stability and makes the Fisker Ocean a perfect clean sustainable utility vehicle, that can be used by international organizations, which need to deploy rescue vehicles in rural areas,” the company founder was quoted as saying by TopGear.
Additionally, “it can also be used as a zero-emission military version to transport military personnel, as oil is one of the largest expenses for the military”. Fisker Automotive‘s head honcho said the extreme utility version will be showed next year and confirmed it will also become available to the public.
It’s unknown yet whether it will feature other mods compared to the regular Ocean, which will enter production at the end of 2021 with an 80 kWh battery and a range of more than 300 miles (483 km) on a single charge. The electric SUV that targets the Tesla Model X, Mercedes-Benz EQC and Jaguar I-Pace can sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and starts at $37,499 in the U.S., or $29,999 after the federal tax credit is applied.
